Texas Longhorn Sale       sunday 22nd July 2018 11.00 am SA time at Naracoorte Regional Livestock Exchange SA,

This was the first auction in South Australia of Texas Longhorn ever to be held.

A large gallery of about 100 people as interested onlookers and registered bidders attended this inaugural sale for South Australia.

The 3 vendors were able to yard 70 head of Texas Longhorns, including the estate dispersal of 32 head of cows, calves, heifers and a bull with semen lot on behalf of Chris & Jane Higgs Fort Dodge Longhorns Naracoorte.  top $1200, averaged $518/hd  including week old calves.

OK Longhorns  Andrew Rainsford of Apsley Vic with 10 females, 3 grown bulls and one semen lot for  Sale top $1350 for cow and calf,   averaged $700. One bull and semen passed in.

Clifton Hill Longhorns from Mt Gambier offered 10 cow and calf lots.      Harriet and Dale Keatley. all sold, averaged $450

The stock were mostly commercial Purebred Texas Longhorn with some crosses clearly noted in the list.

A free "Guess the Horn Width" from tip to tip with cash prize on the day. OK longhorn donated $40 to a lucky lady from Mundulla, being only 0.4 cm off correct width of the bull OK Red Adair.

Lots of photo opportunities were taken by onlookers getting up close to a breed they had herd about but rarely seen.

The excellent undercover soft floor yards at Naracoorte Regional Livestock Exchange made their facility available on a Sunday to facilitate those who may have extended travel considerations.  The Canteen was open for the usual catering and refreshments and the crowd well pleased for the service provided by the Ladies catering even though it was a Sunday.
